Black Grape was originally formed in 1993 by lead singer Shaun Ryder and rapper Kermit while they were putting the finishing touches to the Happy Mondays’ album Yes Please, which the Ruthless Rap Assassins’ Kermit appeared on. It served as Ryder’s first musical project after the Happy Mondays imploded. The group’s 1995 debut It’s Great When You’re Straight…Yeah entered the charts at No. 1 on its release in October 1995, yielding the Top 10 hit singles “Reverend Black Grape” and “In The Name of the Father,” plus a third Top 20 hit “Kelly’s Heroes.”

The box set features rare remixes, live tracks from the band’s 1996 Brixton Academy performance and even the band’s unofficial Euro ’96 football song, England’s Irie, which featured guest vocals from Clash frontman Joe Strummer.

The DVD includes promo videos, and TV performances from Top of the Pops and Later… with Jools Holland. Paolo Hewitt contributes sleeve notes.
