1967 second studio album by the Texan pioneers of psychedelia. This ground-breaking album not only defined psychedelic rock but informed punk a decade later, and even the 90’s indie-dance music scene with Primal Scream’s cover of ‘Slip Inside This House’ on their classic Screamadelica LP

Originally issued in November 1967 – copies barely trickled out of Texas, making original pressings not only expensive but clean copies impossible to find even 50 years ago.

Therefore, meticulous attention to detail has gone into this reissue in order to achieve a facsimile edition faithful to the original stereo pressing as issued by the International Artists Recording Corp.

If Psychedelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators was the first bona fide psychedelic album, then the band surpassed themselves with what is critically regarded as THE masterpiece of psychedelia.

96KHZ-24bit transfers were made of an original pressing of the LP and a mixed master tape. When overlaid the audio matched, authenticating the tape’s provenance as an original cutting master. The number of processes from tape to lacquer were limited to an absolute minimum. No attempt was made to rebalance or EQ. A half speed master was then cut at Abbey Road Studios and a test pressing was then dubbed using the same process and the dynamic range compared against the original pressing.

The result was a better sounding pressing than the original!

1966 debut album by Texan pioneers of psychedelia. Presenting the HIT singles ‘You’re Gonna Miss Me’ and ‘Reverberation’

This ground-breaking album not only defined psychedelic rock but informed punk a decade later, influencing everyone from Led Zeppelin to The Cramps. Originally issued in November 1966, this album has not only continued to gain importance but also world-wide recognition as the first bona fide psychedelic rock album.

This is a facsimile edition of the original mono mix, a faithful reproduction of what was pressed in 1966. It represents the authentic sound and TRANSFORMATIVE POWER of The Psychedelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators.

The mono pressing is highly prized for its uncompromising solid-sounding mix. Meticulous attention to detail has gone into this reissue and the digitisation to make sure every detailed nuance was preserved. A 96KHZ-24bit pass, using a valve signal at minus ten decibels (to eliminate turntable rumble), was conducted several times in order to gauge the best results. No attempt was made to rebalance or EQ. A half speed master was then cut at AIR Mastering and a test pressing was then dubbed using the same process and the dynamic range compared against the original pressing.

The result was a better sound pressing than the original!

‘Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake’, recorded in late 1967 & early 1968 is by far and away the Small Faces’ best-known and most successful album.

Alongside hit singles ‘Lazy Sunday’ & ‘Afterglow’ & classic tracks ‘Rollin’ Over’ & ‘Song Of A Baker’, the album added a conceptual twist with the story of ‘Happiness Stan’ & the narrations of Stanley Unwin.

A chart-topping success in the UK for 6 weeks, the no.1 album represents the band’s finest hour, though soon after release, the Small Faces were no more, having morphed into the Faces and Humble Pie.

The new limited edition coloured vinyl has been cut at half-speed by Barry Grint at Air Studios to match 2018’s box-set edition (now sold out) and gives a better dynamic response, more defined & accurate sound with extended low frequency & smooth high frequency response.

Born in Indianola, Mississippi in 1923, little Albert Nelson was raised in Forrest City, Arkansas, and taught himself how to play guitar when he was just a child, building his first instrument out of a cigar box. After hearing 78s by such luminaries as Lonnie Johnson and Blind Lemon Jefferson, the young guitarist decided to pursue a career in blues. He moved to Gary, Indiana where he recorded his first disc for Parrot Records, and in 1956 relocated to Missouri where he began playing his signature Gibson Flying V electric guitar, which he named “Lucy”.

In 1959 he signed to the Bobbin label racking up a num-ber of regional hits before joining Stax Records in the mid-60s and becoming an international star. Following the label’s demise, he joined Utopia and later Tomato Re-cords in 1976. Albert stayed at Tomato for seven years releasing the funk and soul-tinged New Orleans Heat in 1978 produced by NOLA legend Allen Toussaint at his Sea-Saint Studios. Leading New Orleans session musi-cians give the songs – which include updates of several of King’s earlier classics such as ‘Born Under a Bad Sign’ and ‘I Get Evil’ – a real flavour of the Crescent City. Albert King continued to play concerts and festivals throughout America and Europe right up until his sud-den, premature, death after suffering a fatal heart attack in December 1992.

CHARLY RECORDS present the first ever reissue of the sought-after, cult, New York, gospel street opera, Free The Black Man’s Chains. The most intriguing, and certainly the most ambitious project on the city’s GSF label (see more stunning titles on GSF exclusively from Charly).

The project had its roots in a trio of singles released by the mysterious Broad Street Gang in 1971. The first, on the Cougar label called “Fair Skin Man” and its two follow-ups “L-o-v-e Love” and the title track from the album “Free The Black Man’s Chains”. Celebrated musicians on the sessions were Mitchell Rowe, Bobby Eli, Len Pakula, Daryl Hall, Ron Baker, Norman Harris, The Raelettes and strings arranged by Richie Rome.

A project like Free The Black Man’s Chains should have been perfect for the multi-media nature of GSF. The album could have led to a film in the way that it had for Jesus Christ Superstar, but instead like so many of the label’s releases, the album failed to make its mark due to a lack of promotion. GSF would barely reach its second birthday before it – and its parent company – shut down.
