Six years after their second album Kingdoms in Colour made them one of the hottest names in electronic music, Hertfordshire duo Maribou State return with their third full length album. ● Floating Points announces forthcoming album, Cascade, out via Ninja Tune. Cascade is available on black vinyl, limited edition universal sparkle indie exclusive vinyl, and CD.

● Cascade pushes Floating Points’ sound forward into new places. The eight songs here are allowed to smoulder and spark for up to eight minutes at a time, allowing for more expansive exploration of sounds and grooves than before.

● A subtle homage to his hometown of Manchester ripples across Cascade. “Afflecks Palace” an enveloping glide of harp melodies overtaken by otherworldly bleeps and beeps, named after a Mancunian market described as an “emporium of eclecticism.” Elsewhere, there’s ‘Key 103’, named after “an underground Manchester radio station a young Sam Shepherd would listen to “religiously”.

● Almost a decade on since Elaenia, his revered debut album, the composer has discovered ways to thread his experiments outside of club music seamlessly into
his music designed for the dancefloor.

The genesis of Glass Beams, which formed around founding member Rajan Silva, stemmed from the rekindling of childhood memories related to his father, who emigrated to Melbourne from India in the late 1970s. Silva, in particular, was drawn to the fusion of Western musical styles and traditional Indian music showcased in his father’s music collection. Iconic Bollywood vocalists such as Asha Bhosle coexisted with blues legends like Muddy Waters and DVDs like ‘Concert for George‘—a star-studded tribute to the late Beatles member George Harrison—were in heavy rotation growing up.

This cross-pollination of East and West, of old and new, is a sentiment that the trio have sought to capture in their self-produced, serpentine, psychedelic-tinged music. Throughout their output, Glass Beams present a timeless fusion of cultures and sounds beamed through a prism of live instrumentation and DIY electronica, all wrapped up in a mesmerising visual world of their own creation.

Bonobo – Fragments (2LP)

Fragments is the most emotionally intense record that Simon Green has ever had to make. It’s no surprise that it’s also his masterpiece. The album features Jamila Woods, Joji, Kadhja Bonet, Jordan Rakei, O’Flynn and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. Born first out of fragments of ideas and experimentation, the album ultimately was fused together in a burst of creativity fueled by both collaboration and Green’s escape into the wild. The artwork for Fragments is by Neil Krug who returns after creating the art for 2017’s Migration.

Fragments is a series of 12 sonic affirmations, featuring some of the hardest and most hip-shaking grooves that Green has ever created. The ballads are perfectly placed throughout; they capture a world in flux and glow with hope. “Tides,” featuring Chicagoan singer and poet Jamila Woods, acted as a catalyst, and the album began to click into place around it. “I knew I had a centrepiece, I knew how it was all going to sound,” he says. Working with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, musical themes began to emerge. Recording orchestral musicians in actual studios helped bring the songs “out of the box” even more.

Bloom Innocent is the gravity-defying, sky-scraping, stars-reaching sound of a man on a mission: to excite himself, to escape expectations, to thrust clear of all his previous achievements. It’s a spacious, capacious, eight-track wonder glowing with delicate piano, ear-tingling guitar and Fink’s soulful, woody vocal. The album was largely recorded in Fink’s home studio in Berlin with an ally available to him back in London: the aforesaid Flood, one of the world’s all-time greatest record producers.
