What began as Stephen McBean’s bedroom project soon evolved into a full band with Josh Wells, Amber Webber, and Jeremy Schmidt (whose keyboards became an integral part of the sound). Recorded at The Hive and the Rehearsal Room in Vancouver, the album merges dark, powerful blues with hypnotic jams, witty riffs, and a gracefully heavy pulse.

Upon release, Black Mountain quickly connected with the underground rock community, aligning with bands like Comets on Fire and Oneida, while drawing inspiration from the experimental worlds of Faust and Amon Düül. The band’s trajectory soon took them from North American clubs to touring with Coldplay, marking the beginning of a long and adventurous journey.
