Formed in Stockholm in 1983, Bathory became one of the most crucial forces in the birth of black metal. Led by the visionary Quorthon, the band’s early releases fused Satanic imagery, raw lo-fi production and feral vocals into a sound that would define an entire genre.

With their debut album and follow-ups The Return and Under the Sign of the Black Mark, Bathory laid the blueprint for the Norwegian black metal explosion of the ’90s. Primitive, uncompromising and hugely influential — this is extreme metal history forged in fire.
