Berlin indie/electro-wave trio Dina Summer are back with a good dose of synthpop on their second album “Girls Gang”!

Dina Summer is a collaborative project consisting of Kalipo, one half of the legendary electro-punk band Frittenbude, and the Greek-German DJ & producer duo Local Suicide, who run the label Iptamenos Discos. Their previous works include the critically acclaimed album “Rimini” from 2022, which offers a nostalgic insight into retro disco vibes, as well as the EPs “Who Am I” (2021) and “Hide & Seek” (2024). Since the band’s inception five years ago, Dina Summer’s music has made a splash with millions of streams, worldwide radio airplay and numerous Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and has been played by DJs including Charlotte De Witte, The Hacker, Âme, Dixon, Joris Voorn, DJ Hell, Joyce Muniz and Dubfire.

The new album comprises 11 songs that deal with themes such as empowerment (“No More Tears” & “Girls Gang”), being an outsider (“Alien” & “Zombie”), transience (“Promise Me feat, Curses & Joshua Murphy”), nostalgia (“Halkidiki”) and relationships (“Nothing To Hide” & “Hypnotized”). While their debut album focused more on the club between Italo disco and 90s electro, the new release explores a wider sound palette, ranging from new wave & post-punk to electroclash and synth & indie pop.

“Girls Gang” is a good deal more song-oriented than the debut album, with the band expanding their repertoire on some songs to include real (!) bass and guitars, but above all frontwoman Dina increasingly relies on her singing voice alongside her trademark spoken word. Nevertheless, the album is a seamless continuation of the first album, once again featuring the pop melodies and hooks with which Dina Summer has already made a name for herself, spread out on a bed of indie pop anthems and club breakers.
