Born in 1920, pianist Dave Brubeck is an American jazz legend. In the early 1950s, he founded the Dave Brubeck Quartet in California, with which he soon became an insider tip on the Sunshine State’s jazz scene. in 1961, Brubeck succeeded in reaching the heights of the pop charts with “Take Five”, a piece composed by his saxophonist. The song, played in 5/4 time, was the first jazz record to sell more than a million records. “Take Five” was taken from the album “Time Out”, released in 1959, with which Brubeck presented one of the definitive milestones of jazz.

Strange as it may sound, nobody had great expectations of the album when “Time Out” was released. It was released more or less without the approval of CBS boss Goddard Leiberson and gradually climbed to #2 in the US charts. It also became the best-selling jazz album of the year.
