Every Good Boy Deserves Favour is the best realized of the Moody Blues’ classic albums. The lush melodies and the sound of Michael Pinder’s Mellotron were never richer, and the guitar pyrotechnics on pieces like “The Story in Your Eyes” were never more vivid. “Emily’s Song,” “Nice to Be Here” and “My Song” are among the best work the group ever did, and “The Story in Your Eyes” is the best rock number they ever cut, with a bracing beat and the kind of lyrical complexity one more expected out of George Harrison at the time.

Although this collection only produced one top-40 single, “The Story in Your Eyes”, anybody who likes the Moody Blues, or just desires a change of pace from the heavy beats and angry cynicism of today’s music, would be well-advised to buy this album. Also included is “Emily’s Song” which was written by John Lodge for his then-newborn daughter.
