For a fleeting moment in the late ’60s, The Sacred Mushroom were the most electrifying live band in Cincinnati, Ohio. Formed by brothers Larry and Tim Goshorn, this blues-drenched psychedelic outfit lived communally as the self-proclaimed “Mushroom People,” creating raw, unfiltered rock from the margins of mainstream America.

Their sole, self-titled album — originally released in 1969 on the underground Parallax label — is a heady fusion of gritty electric blues, acid-tinged guitar jams, and countercultural spirit. Featuring powerful original tracks alongside a standout cover of “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” (The Kinks), the album exudes authenticity, rebellion, and a distinct Midwestern soul.

Though it vanished quickly upon release, the record has since become a sought-after cult classic, praised for its intensity, musicianship, and timeless underground feel.
