Released in 1968 at the height of the psychedelic era, the only album by Los Angeles psych outfit The Travel Agency stands as a fascinating and underrated relic of the late ’60s West Coast scene.
Produced by James Griffin (later of Bread), the record blends garage rock energy with swirling psychedelic textures, organ-driven arrangements and lysergic studio experimentation.
The album opens with the haunting organ intro of “What’s A Man”, a track whose main riff has often been noted for its striking resemblance to what decades later would become the iconic sound of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Packed with fuzzy guitars, trippy atmospheres and classic late-’60s vibes, The Travel Agency remains a cult favorite among psychedelic and garage rock collectors.
