The debut album from British-Brazilian drummer & percussionist Fabio De Oliveira (aka Babo Moreno).
An intoxicating mix of Brazilian rhythms (Forró, Ijexá, Maracatu), London jazz energy, and world-class collaborations. Featured by Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, Jazz FM and more – a vibrant new voice in global jazz.

Babo Moreno is the creative vision of Fabio De Oliveira, one of London’s most respected drummers and percussionists, now stepping into the spotlight with his self-titled debut album. Having worked with Sault, Jacob Collier, Terry Callier, Alfa Mist, Jalen Ngonda, and Airto Moreira, Fabio brings his wealth of experience and deep Brazilian roots to a bold new sound.

The album is a celebration of dual identity – the heritage of Brazil meeting the pulse of modern London. Drawing on traditional rhythms like Forró, Ijexá, and Maracatu, and fusing them with the improvisational fire of jazz, Moreno creates something fresh and utterly unique. Imagine Hermeto Pascoal, Tony Allen, and Eddie Palmieri crossing paths in a Notting Hill bar – that’s the spirit here.

Already championed across the UK scene, Moreno has been featured by Gilles Peterson (BBC 6 Music), Jazz FM, Jamie Cullum (BBC Radio 2), Soweto Kinch (BBC Radio 3), NTS, Worldwide FM, and Soho Radio. His debut single Rei Da Pesca was hailed as “one of my tracks of the year” by Jamie Cullum, with support from artists such as Jordan Rakei. Live, he’s already sold out at the London Latin Jazz Festival and was chosen as a Rising Talent by La Linea Festival.

The record features an impressive lineup of collaborators:

  • Dennis Rollins (Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Monty Alexander)
  • Ife Ogunjobi (Ezra Collective, Mercury Prize 2023 winner)
  • Gilli Lopes (Dom Salvador, Duduka Da Fonseca)
  • Tamar Osborn (Dele Sosimi, Collocutor, Sarathy Korwar)
  • Special feature from Baque Luar, the acclaimed London-based collective of female & non-binary vocalists and percussionists

Recorded at Livingston Studios and Fish Factory Studios, co-written and co-arranged with Greg Sanders, produced by Fabio De Oliveira, engineered/mixed by Benedic Lamdin (Nostalgia 77) and mastered by Caspar Sutton-Jones (Gearbox Records), this album carries both craftsmanship and soul.

A thrilling debut, Babo Moreno signals the arrival of a new generation of British-Brazilian music, balancing joy, nostalgia, and the search for identity with irresistible rhythm and groove.
