Formed in the mid-1970s, Armageddon was a British-American supergroup featuring former members of The Yardbirds, Renaissance, Steamhammer, and Captain Beyond — including Keith Relf (vocals), Martin Pugh (guitar), Louis Cennamo (bass), and Bobby Caldwell (drums).
Their sole, self-titled album — released in 1975 — is a powerful fusion of hard rock, progressive structures, space rock textures, and early proto-metal. With standout tracks like “Buzzard” and the epic “Basking in the White of the Midnight Sun”, the album is packed with complex arrangements, extended jams, and dark, atmospheric intensity.
Despite the band’s pedigree and musical ambition, Armageddon disbanded shortly after the album’s release, due in part to personal issues and the tragic death of Keith Relf in 1976. Over time, the album has earned cult status, cherished by fans of ’70s hard rock and progressive music for its bold sound and raw emotional edge.
A must-hear obscurity from the golden era of progressive hard rock.
