A killer blend of German prog, krautrock, and organ-heavy hard rock! Epsilon’s 1971 debut is a standout of the early ‘70s scene — rich in psychedelia, classical flourishes, and bluesy power.

Epsilon’s self-titled debut album from 1971 is a standout gem in the world of early German progressive rock and krautrock. Formed by vocalist/guitarist Michael Winzkowski (previously of Orange Peel and Nosferatu), the band also included Walter Ortel (organ/keyboards), Michael Ertl (bass), and Hartmut Pfannmüller (drums/percussion).

Emerging during a rich era for German rock, Epsilon delivered a sound that blended heavy progressive elements, psychedelic textures, and blues-influenced hard rock, all anchored by soaring Hammond organ and dynamic instrumental interplay. Their debut album stands as their most powerful and well-regarded release, offering a bold statement of intent from a band pushing rock’s boundaries.

Expect long-form compositions, classical overtones, powerful riffs, and extended jams that bring to mind early Deep Purple, Atomic Rooster, and krautrock contemporaries — but with a distinct identity rooted in melodic structure and cinematic atmosphere.

For fans of organ-driven prog, psychedelic hard rock, and obscure early ‘70s European underground, Epsilon is essential listening.
