Originally known as Los Impala, this Venezuelan band signed to Cuba’s Velvet label in 1964, gaining a strong reputation across Latin America. After relocating to Spain in pursuit of broader success, they released their self-titled album Los Impala (1968) on Madrid’s Marfer label, catching the attention of Audiofidelity Enterprises in New York.

A name change to the more modern Impala Syndrome led to their one and only album, released in 1969 on the Audiofidelity subsidiary Parallax. Wrapped in a trippy psychedelic cover by Stephanie Altman, Impala Syndrome delivers a powerful blend of hard rock, acid psych, and Latin soul, echoing influences from Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, and The Beatles, yet sounding entirely unique.

Critic Beverly Paterson called it “crammed tight with dazzling mobility… one of the finest albums of its genre.”

A must-have for fans of obscure ’60s psych, Latin rock, and heavy fuzzed-out grooves.
